The University of Debrecen actively supports the research of Jewish culture

Debrecen – The institution is well maintained with the local Jewish Community of Debrecen, lectures on Jewish culture are popular at the university.
The University of Debrecen has been actively supporting the activities of the Jewish Scientific and Cultural Research Institute in Debrecen recently, stressed Elek Bartha, DE Vice-Rector for Education at the partnership meeting of the organization.

“In recent years, interest in Jewish culture has increased in Debrecen, such religious tourism has intensified,” said Tamás Horovitz, president of the Debrecen Jewish Community, at the Debrecen Jewish Scientific and Cultural Research Institute’s Debrecen Zs. street headquarters.
Speaking about the goals, Tamás Horovitz explained that, among other things, it is planned that
with the involvement of students of the specialists of the University of Debrecen, they carry out research on Jewish culture, sacredness and traditions. Their efforts are also supported by the Hungarian government.
Elek Bartha, Deputy Rector of Education of the University of Debrecen, reminded at the event that the institution has maintained professional relations with the Jewish Community of Debrecen for more than two decades.
– Researchers of the university regularly participate in the international scientific conference of Jewish communities in the Carpathian Basin. We have hundreds of Israeli students and we are in close contact with Israeli universities and academic institutions. DE intends to further strengthen and broaden this relationship system, explained Elek Bartha.

Péter Forisek, Director General of the Teacher Training Center of the University of Debrecen, reported that one of the popular lectures of the University of Debrecen was with those dealing with Jewish culture and traditions. He added:
it is planned that next year the research center will hold an international conference on Judaism in the Carpathian Basin and its relationship system with the participation of the university.
Péter Forisek emphasized that I would like to extend the activities of the research institute to the whole of the Trans-Tisza region, the Highlands, Transcarpathia and the Partium, the University of Prešov and the Beregszász II. The lecturers and researchers of Ferenc Rákóczi College also indicated their intention to join.
Zsolt Heller, President of the Foundation for the Jewish Church and Cemetery of Debrecen, which operates the Jewish Scientific and Cultural Research Institute in Debrecen, emphasized that the Debrecen Jewish Scientific and Cultural Research Institute was a private initiative. So far, others have created the collection of Jewish ethnography and objects in Debrecen, the Albert Kardos International Poetry and Prose Competition, and prepared a traveling exhibition about the life of Hanna Szenes.
For example, they support young people’s Jewish religious, historical, ethnographic, architectural research, and help them get to Israeli universities, companies, and research institutes.
Tamás Horovitz also spoke at the meeting that the ruined buildings on the corner of Bajcsy-Zsilinszky Street and Pásti Street are planned to be demolished soon, and a Carpathian Basin Memorial Center will be built on their site, which will function not as a museum but as a cultural center.
Representatives of the municipalities and museums of Gyomaendrőd, Berettyóújfalu, Mátészalka and Karcag, which play a major role in Hungarian Jewish culture, also took part in the partnership meeting. The Déri Museum in Debrecen and the municipalities of Tiszafüred, Hajdúszoboszló and Hajdúnánás also expressed their intention to cooperate.
