The Consumer Council disagrees with the travel companies about quarantine hotels – NRK Norway – Overview of news from different parts of the country

Last week, NRK wrote about the Kahn family who ended up in quarantine hotels in London.
The adults were fully vaccinated, but it did not last when someone on the plane had been infected. The rules in the UK only grant exemption from quarantine if you have been vaccinated in the UK. This is despite the fact that the vaccines are approved when entering the country.
The Kahn family had booked a trip themselves, but if you had booked a package trip, you should be safer. At least that is what the Consumer Council thinks
– If you buy a package tour, you are entitled to everything going according to plan. In the event of such unforeseen events as illness on a plane with subsequent demands for quarantine, you are first and foremost entitled to assistance from the organizer, says Caroline Skarderud in the Consumer Council.
– The package tour operator will not be liable for financial losses incurred as a result of the quarantine, but it may be relevant with a suitable price reduction for a long-term quarantine that affects the quality of the trip. Price reduction means that you get back part of the price of the trip as a result of the trip being something other than anticipated, says Skarderud.
Rejects price reductions
Ving does not agree with this.
– Since all parts of the package tour (flights, hotels, meals) are delivered according to the agreement, we will in principle not pay compensation if someone has to be quarantined and for that reason lose holidays. We will be able to provide practical help and support, says Marie-Anne Zachrisson in Ving Norge.
She points out that there are special times, and that people must be prepared for changing rules from country to country.
– Those who choose to travel now, have bought a trip in an ongoing pandemic and are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the holiday country’s entry knit, which can be changed until departure. It is the traveler’s duty to keep up to date, says Zachrisson.
Refers to the Package Travel Committee
TUI does not want to say what they would do in such a case, but comments in general.
– We will of course assist our customers when they travel with us. They are encouraged to get in touch if anything should happen. In cases that you mention here, we will follow the Package Travel Committee’s decisions and practice, answers Nora Aspengren, communications consultant at TUI.
When NRK asks what it uses, Aspengren answers that they must take it case by case.
Cecilie Asak Oftedahl, head of the secretariat of the Complaints Board for Package Travel, says that they have no board practice to refer to in this case, and therefore cannot answer.
