Such a the change of weather -who begins to favor the transmission of diseases- as well the slow pace at which vaccinations proceed have increased in the increase of Covid-19 cases but also in more hospital admissions.

In this context, the festive events planned in Thessaloniki cause intense concern and skepticism. for the celebration of the Patron Saint of the city of Agios Dimitrios of Myrovlitos.

Concerns that intensify from the images recorded on Monday morning from the procession of the remains of the patron saint of the city where Hundreds of worshipers attended without observing the measures for the coronavirus.

The procession took place in a procession to the Ministry of Macedonia-Thrace, via Olympus, and returned to Agios Dimitrios. During the journey, the faithful defied the measures against Covid-19, as many people gathered and kissed the images. without wearing a protective mask.

Vatopoulos: The parades are dangerous to health

Newsbomb.gr contacted the professor of Microbiology Alkiviadis Vatopoulos and asked him to take a stand both for the increase in coronavirus cases and for the planned parades.

As Mr. Vatopoulos said, “whether or not parades will take place is a purely political decision, but we must keep in mind that our gathering is dangerous. If it is decided to hold parades, it must be ensured that they last as short as possible. “It would be good to find only vaccinated citizens in them and to observe all the protection measures such as a mask, etc.”

Commenting on the course of the pandemic, Mr. Vatopoulos noted that “we are entering a new wave and it needs special attention. The weather is beginning to favor the transmission of diseases, so protection measures must be observed. “There should also be information about vaccines so that citizens can be convinced and vaccinated.”

It is recalled that yesterday, that the student parade that was scheduled to take place on October 27 in Thessaloniki was canceled due to the death of Fofi Gennimata.

Appeal of the Medical Association of Thessaloniki for compliance with the measures

On Monday, October 25, the president of the Medical Association of Thessaloniki, Nikos Nitsas, called for measures to be taken during the festivities, noting that the city has for a long time presented an ever-deteriorating epidemiological picture with an ever-increasing number of coronary cases.

“If we go back a year, to last year’s three-day celebration in Thessaloniki, we will find that the evolution of the pandemic had a galloping pace even then, with the results we all experienced in our city in the months that followed. The picture this year has similarities, but there is also a significant difference, which concerns our vaccinated fellow citizens, of all ages. Last year’s sad development should be a life lesson for all of us, so that during this year’s celebration we behave in such a way that we follow the measures we all know not to favor the transmission of the virus. The use of the mask in all interiors, but also indoors, where there is congestion, is mandatory. Let us not let the virus celebrate with us and especially during our visits to friends and relatives, as we protect all those who belong to vulnerable groups, but also those who are not vaccinated. “The reduction of the pandemic is in the hands of all of us and the only weapon we have is our vaccination”, pointed out Mr. Nitsas.
