MAINTENANCE. Jean-Luc Lemoine intends to “talk about everything” in Rouen

If we can no longer say anything, it seems essential to do so, at least that is what Jean-Luc Lemoine will do at the theater À l’Ouest, à Rouen (Seine-Maritime), Wednesday 27 and Thursday 28 October 2021.
“We can still talk about everything”
News: It seems that we can’t say anything more?
Jean-Luc Lemoine: Yes, it seems. At least that’s what they’re trying to make us believe. We can say things, but with social networks we have to justify ourselves more than before. They put barriers on us and we are perhaps too docile. We have to go. And in my show I prove that we can still talk about everything.
“I will be on the lookout for what is happening in Rouen”
Comment have you built your show?
JL-L: I try to do something that looks like me. I fired all the frills. I go on all sensitive, unthinkable subjects, because you have to go. I am also talking about terrorism, veganism, politics. There is an observation of society through the eyes of someone who is overwhelmed by things. The last part shows how far we can go in 2021 in the field of humor. I blow everything up. I ask questions that make the whole room uncomfortable and then I develop.
When I built this show, I wanted to take people by the hand and lead them on my journey. It is very constructed, it is unthinkable to take it upside down, for example.
The whole first part corresponds to what we are being given today. It is assembled in several blocks. I at any time remove one of these blocks that I will find less relevant to place another. And I will be on the lookout for what is happening in Rouen.
Your idea is therefore to make observations with humor …
JL-L: The idea is not to teach lessons. I hate humorists who give lessons. I point out the dysfunctions. I want people to laugh and say, yes that’s right.
I also take a vicious pleasure. I ask questions and I wait a bit before giving the answer. People meanwhile are like, “No, he’s not going to do it anyway.” Finally I find an angle to make people laugh with it.

The title of the show, BRUT, is therefore aptly named …
JL-L: When it comes out, no one can wonder why this title was chosen.
I tackle themes that those who have seen my previous shows are not used to seeing me deal with. I wanted to get out of my comfort zone. I cannot speak out on freedom of speech without setting an example.
Do you interact a lot with the public?
JL-L: Before all this fell on our noses, I had come to play my show in Rouen. There was a wonderful exchange with the public. The room is great, it offers another relationship with the public. We really feel like we are sharing something. I’m also on the lookout for people’s reactions, because you get to see almost everyone. The show is very liberating. At the exit, some people say to me: “It feels good to laugh about this again today”.
