Covid-19 cases in Portugal remains “100%” of the Delta variant
O situation report on genetic diversity of the new SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus in Portugal, this Tuesday, reveals that “100%” of cases in Portugal are of the Delta variant.
According to the report of the National Institute of Health Doctor Ricardo Jorge (INSA), from September 27th to October 10th, “a relative frequency of 100% was recorded for a Delta variant (B.1.617.2). From the 11th to the 17th of October, INSA pointed out that, although a Delta variant has a relative frequency of 100%, this value is provisional as the data is still being calculated.
Also according to the same report, from the 4th to the 10th of October a weekly evolution of the relative frequency of the different occasions of the Delta variant is presented, defined with the prefix ‘AY’.
“This subclassification, through the grouping of viruses with greater genetic/epidemiological proximity to each other, facilitates the continuous monitoring of the genetic evolution and geotemporal dispersion of SARS-CoV-2, enhancing the early detection of new constellations of mutations of interest”, explains the INSA no documents.
Discrimination in disconnections does not indicate that they present differences disappears (greater transmissibility, association with severe disease, greater ability to evade the immune system), being in constant review and refinement, with the suppression and/or addition of formations in the upcoming updates.
In Portugal, with 9,963 Delta sequences analyzed to date, they are divided into more than 30 young genes. From this continuous monitoring, INSA highlights the current circulation of different Delta variant origins in Portugal, 14 of which were detected consecutively in the last three weeks. No person has a frequency related to the rising trend, with the exception of trend AY.5.
Up to nine data cases associated with the AY.4.2 mean were detected, which were registered between the 24th of August and the 4th of October. From the 4th to the 10th of October, a case of the AY.1 average was also detected, after seven consecutive weeks without any case being detected.
From the week of September 13th to 19th, no cases associated with the Gamma variant have been detected (P.1). A similar situation applies to the Beta variant, which has not been detected since a week from 19th to 25th July.
