call for an energy supply strategy
The Party of Socialists and Democrats and Democratic Movement structure to trigger a debate by the government on the country’s energy strategy. The issue of the increase in the costs of supplying electricity and gas, but also of water resources, will soon arrive in an overwhelming manner also in San Marino. Already, as today’s stormy meeting demonstrates, it is a priority issue for the European Union and will generate profound effects on the future of the entire continent. The story is well known and is creating radical repercussions throughout Europe and beyond: the cost of electricity has increased up to 300% and that of gas up to 600% compared to last year. The reasons are many and San Marino can clearly affect none of these. Undoubtedly, the aforementioned effects will have repercussions on the AASS Services Company which manages their procurement and distribution and ultimately also on the “national bill”, given the public monopoly nature of energy services. PSD and MD consider it essential, especially taking into account the National Energy Plan which will have to be updated by the end, to define an electricity supply plan that reconciles the need for cost reduction, greater independence from fluctuations and above all able to integrate targets for the reduction of climate-altering emissions. As for San Marino, the emissions are fortunately not found in our territory, because we do not have polluting power plants, but we cannot ignore that what we consume, somewhere, with non-renewable sources, is generated. We immediately remove from the table of possibilities that of having a turbogas plant or a waste-to-energy plant, which would not only require burning our waste, but moreover having to import it, and also that of installing clusters of wind generators in the Republic, given the restrictions caused by insufficient wind if not in an area that is too delicate from an aesthetic point of view. A possible resource to be taken into consideration again is that of the construction of an internal hydroelectric power plant, a catchment area with an attached turbine for the production of electricity. There is only one other alternative, more innovative and feasible: that of joining international projects for the construction of power plants from renewable sources, be they photovoltaic, wind or hydroelectric. Financing, jointly with other investors, a power station in which San Marino holds a sufficient share for its own business is a viable path that would allow both to be able to boast of a green status, both to save on electricity costs in perspective and also to improve one’s energy independence. becoming our state owner of a plant, although not in the Republic. Let’s not waste time on this strategic aspect at an international level and increasingly important for San Marino as well.
