Bulgaria is the only European country that does not have a rescue ship, a ready crew or readiness for such an operation, the Minister of Transport Hristo Alexiev told journalists in Varna today. He recalled that the only such vessel, the Perun, had been scrapped.
“I found complete disintegration and irresponsibility, there were no plans, people were not prepared for such an operation, the equipment was in disgrace.” Thus, the Minister revealed the situation before the incident with the meetings on September 20 near Kamen Bryag merchant ship “Vera Su”. Minister Alexiev expressed his satisfaction with the fact that, after all, the complex rescue operation has already ended and the vessels are already on the quay in Varna. The operation was successful, as we managed to protect both human life and the environment and the livelihood of the fishermen, said Alexiev.

The Minister also said that after this incident the waterways in the Bulgarian waters should be reconsidered, because it is very close to the shore. Bulgaria must finally secure equipment, Alexiev added. According to him, it is not necessary to buy a special ship, but there should be a clear procedure as an action in different.
