On October 27, Amsterdam will officially turn 746! On that day in 1275, the city received the famous Toll Privilege from the Dutch Count Floris V. The fragile document with the first mention of Amsterdam can be seen this year in the Treasury on Saturday 23, Sunday 24 and Wednesday 27 October. For the visitors of the Tolprivilege, a birthday treat will be ready on 27 October in Café de Bazel (as long as it’s gone).
Presentation in the Treasury
In the Treasury is a presentation about the author of the Tolprivilege, Mr. Hendrik Allardszoon van Middelburg, on display. In the period 1268-1280 Mr. Hendrik as one of Count Floris V’s clerks and was responsible for drafting and writing some 112 charters and documents.
