Burning engines and a collision with a drone: on Tuesday, 400 emergency services with around 160 extras practiced at Zurich Airport.
A large drone collided with an aircraft and during the subsequent hard landing, one of the engines IS caught fire: around 400 emergency services practiced this emergency at Zurich Airport on Tuesday. In addition, 160 extras took part in the “McFly 21” exercise.
The aircraft was evacuated, the injured passengers were cared for and the fire was put out. The processes are then critically examined and a conclusion is drawn.
The operational capability is proven every two years
Such exercises are necessary so that the emergency organizations can regularly check their operational capability and that one can learn from them what can be improved in the future, as Stefan Tschudin, COO Flughafen Zürich AG, confirms.
In the event of an emergency, the various rescue organizations must work hand in hand. To ensure that everything runs as smoothly as possible, a major exercise takes place every two years. This year, too, the canton police, public prosecutor, protection & rescue, Swiss, Zurich Airport, the Airport Emergency Team and the cantonal civil protection were involved. (sda)
