(em) Yesterday (October 25th, 2021) the Frankfurt police’s bicycle relay carried out extensive checks with the support of other police officers. The police not only noticed numerous red light violations here.
From 3:30 p.m., the officers carried out extensive checks in the Friedberger Landstraße / Koselstraße intersection and then from 7:00 p.m. in the Schaumainkai / Eiserner Steg area in order to increase road safety over the long term. In doing so, they found 21 red light violations and seven cell phone violations by cyclists and occasionally by e-scooters. In two cases the police officers seized pedelecs and in three cases they filed a criminal complaint because there is suspicion that the pedelecs have been illegally altered. If the suspicion is confirmed, the respective driver would need a driver’s license and insurance for the two-wheeler. The allegedly tuned pedelecs are presented to an expert.
Anyone who disregards a red traffic light as a cyclist must expect a fine of at least 60 euros and one point. Depending on the individual case, the fine can amount to up to 180 euros. What many do not know: using a mobile phone while cycling can also be expensive. The fine is at least 55 euros.
The Frankfurt police will continue to carry out extensive controls throughout the city in order to increase road safety over the long term.
