SEE: The Sculptural Family has returned to Flora
“I remember the statue from the time I passed it as a boy. It was a natural part of the park, which replaced the shopping center at the turn of the millennium. A few years ago, I was looking for what happened to her. When I became mayor, my colleagues and I began to examine the possibility of returning her to her original place. We managed to discover not only the statue, but also to meet its co-author Bohumil Teplý personally. I’m sorry he didn’t live to see it today, but I know very well how he was looking forward to moving the sculptural group and how happy he would be, “says the mayor of Prague 3 Jiří Ptáček.
The sculptural group is owned by a Prague transport company and since 2000 it has stood in the park at the final metro station A Depo Hostivař. In the end, Prague 3 agreed with both the transport company and the owner of Atria Flora to relocate the sculpture, which was created at the end of the 1970s.
“We originally counted on the sculptural group in the area of the new tram loop Depo Hostivař, which we will start building in the spring of next year. However, when we were approached by the management of the Prague 3 district with the idea of returning the statue to its original location near the Flora metro station, we agreed without hesitation. We want valuable works of art to return to their original places, for example in metro stations or their surroundings, ”adds DPP CEO Petr Witowski. At the request of Mr. Bohumil Teplý, the Pánek stone sculpture was repaired, relocated and installed.
