Russia believes that the 1967 Outer Space Treaty is applicable to the resources of the Moon – Space

Russia proceeds from the premise that the principles and norms of the 1967 Outer Space Treaty are fully applicable in the resources of the relationship between the Moon and the aforementioned celestial bodies. This was stated on Monday by the representative of the Russian Federation to the UN Gloria Aharonova, speaking in the fourth committee of the international organization.
The diplomat noted the importance of “developing international cooperation in the use of outer space through the principles of the use of outer space for the purposes of the universally recognized principles and norms of international space law, codified, in particular, the 1967 Outer Space Treaty.” Russia offers support for a comprehensive discussion of the topic and the use of space resources within the framework of the General Assembly and its committee on outer space, “she continued.
“Artificially forced coordination of the rules and standards of activities in the field of space resources of the committee carries serious risks, – warned the representative of the Russian Permanent Mission to the UN. And the norms of the 1967 Outer Space Treaty.”
Russia, as the diplomat said, welcomes the applications of Angola, Bangladesh, Kuwait, Panama and Slovenia to join as full members of the UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space.
