Rain and temperature drop from Thursday in Portugal
The weather in mainland Portugal should undergo “a significant change” from mid-afternoon on Thursday, with rain and a gradual drop in maximum temperatures, warned the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) this Monday .
“The dry and mild weather of the last few days, introducing rainy weather and a gradual decrease in maximum temperatures, between the 28th and 31st of October [entre quinta-feira e domingo], informed the IPMA, referring to the change in the weather in mainland Portugal.
The weather forecast points to the weakening of the anticyclonic region that extends from the Azores to Western Europe, which will allow “a passage of tropical air masses with a high water vapor content, transported latitudinally, in a pattern commonly known as ‘ atmospheric river'”.
“This meteorological situation should persistently originate in the majority of the territory and has the potential to produce persistently heavy rains, especially in the Center and South regions, where impacts will be excluded”, indicated the IPMA.
In this context, the rain should reach the Minho and Douro Litoral from mid-afternoon on Thursday, then it will gradually spread to the remaining North and Center regions, and, from Friday, to the South region, according to weather information.
On the other hand, the wind from the south quadrant should increase in intensity, particularly on land, added the Institute, also highlighting the forecast of an increase in maritime maritime on the coast of mainland Portugal and in maritime areas under national responsibility.
