Since March of this year, De Lijn has been renovating the tram tracks and the stops in Blancefloerlaan. The tracks were damaged, which caused connections to malfunction on the tram. Due to a peat layer at a depth of six meters, the subsoil was very unstable, which caused problems especially with the large Albatrostrams.
Major rail works are planned on the Blancefloerlaan, among other things, this coming All Saints weekend. As a result, tram lines 5, 9 and 15 will not run between Central Station and the final stop P+R Linkeroever for three days, while tram line 3 will not run between Central Station and the final stop P+R Melsele. In concrete terms, this means that tram traffic is possible between Antwerp and Linkeroever for three days.
De Lijn is also using the tram interruption to carry out some works in the pre-metro tunnels as well. Pre-metro stations Meir, Groenplaats and Van Eeden will therefore be closed during the weekend. Opera premetro station will be approved. Also all aboveground stops on Linkeroever and in Zwijndrecht are not served.
“We decided that these works will have a major impact on our services,” says Karen Van Der Sype of De Lijn. “That is why we ask all travelers to use as many alternatives as possible this weekend, such as the train, bicycle, the pedestrian tunnel, the Waterbus or the car.” If you have no alternative, you can take bus 36. According to the rules, however, this bus cannot run on tram lines that have been lost. “Be sure to take that into account”, Van Der Sype.
De Lijn Link does say that the tram route will fit a lot more comfortably. “The traffic flow and safety are also improving. This also applies to the works being carried out in pre-metro tunnels,” it sounds.
Also in the Waasland it is expected during the autumn holidays. The Agency for Roads and Traffic is carrying out road works on the N70 in Zwijndrecht between 30 October and 7 November. Consequently also bus lines 81, 82, 83, 84 will hinder big words.
“Bus lines 81 to 85 have been shortened to P+R Melsele. From there are shuttle buses to Linkeroever. Bus line 87 will be diverted, not via the center of Zwijndrecht, and will commute between P+R Melsele and Linkeroever”, explains Van Der Sype. Due to the works, tram line 3 to 7 November will also be limited to Linkeroever instead of to P+R Melsele.
Because Infrabel is renewing part of the signaling system in Waasland during the autumn holidays, train traffic between Waasland and Antwerp will also be interrupted. From Saturday 30 October to Monday 1 November this will be the case between Sint-Niklaas and Zwijndrecht, from Tuesday 2 to Sunday 7 November no trains will run between Melsele and Zwijndrecht. The NMBS past service to and replacement buses. Trains between Ghent and Antwerp are being diverted.
