2021 ranking of the Sole 24 Ore crime, among medium-large cities Verona is the safest
Verona, 25 October 2021 – “I am happy with the result of this investigation, which nevertheless does not surprise me. The work pays off and these data confirm it.” This is what the mayor of Verona says. Federico Sboarina who comments on the data of the 2021 Ranking of the Sole 24 Ore which analyzes thecrime index in the 106 Italian provinces. The study rewards Verona and the work done in recent years on the security front. In the ranking at the top there are the cities with the greatest realities and at the bottom of the ranking those with the lowest incidence. The city of Verona is positioned below half, at the 54th placed on 106, confirming the positive trend of recent years, given that it was in 33rd place in 2015. “Our territory, in the city and in the province, is manned and controlled by the Police. It is so throughout the year and the fight against petty crime is one of the objectives for which we have invested significant resources over the years, in terms of equipment and human resources. Once again the numbers silence the controversy and false alarms, these data reflect the actions taken. All the rest are words in the wind “adds the mayor.
The survey examines the crime index of the total crimes committed and reported per 100 thousand inhabitants. And it does so with a double comparison. The first confrontation data from 2020, the year of the pandemic and the lockdown, with those of 2019; the second analyzes the differences between the first half of 2021 and that of 2020. Specifically of Verona, 2020 marks a reduction of reals of 23% compared to the previous year, a minus sign that unites all 106 Italian cities covered by the survey and that represents one of the effects of the lockdown and the restrictive measures that followed one another throughout 2020. In the first half of 2021, the index rose by 12.6 percent, but it still remains a long way from pre-Covid levels. The numbers of complaints in homes are decreasing, thanks also to the implementation on the territory of video surveillance cameras, useful sources of evidence for the benefit of the investigative bodies.
The mayor stresses that “From 2015 to today, Verona has improved by 21 positions in the safety ranking, of which 14 since 2017. The city was in fact in 33rd place six years ago, while now at 54th, thus decreasing in the number of crimes .
Verona is not only a safe city, but it is the safest among those of the same size in the range with over 200,000 inhabitants ”. And they conclude: “In the category of medium-large cities, our mid-ranking indicates exactly this position. In fact, in front of us for the number of complaints and crimes there are not only the big cities like Milan and Rome, and other more populous regional capitals, but also cities with a smaller population such as Modena, Reggio Emilia, Parma, Trieste. A reality with far fewer events and even international events that attract tourists and visitors. Among the Venetians, before Verona there are Venice and Padua, both with a lower number of inhabitants than the Scaligero capital “.
