Deployed since October 19, the 154 municipal officials – resulting from the first batch of police officers from the City of Paris trained to become today’s police officers – have already started to patrol the streets of the capital. , distributed in each of the 17 geographical divisions that are the Parisian arrondissements.

If they are not yet able to verbalize the offenders, they are already implementing their missions on the ground. Like Karine Jarosz, one of the 154 municipal police officers, who explains for example to a young cyclist that wearing headphones is prohibited on a bicycle, reminds her of the rules, before letting her leave with a simple warning.
A road safety prevention and awareness-raising mission, while waiting to be able to sanction. In a few days, in such circumstances, the municipal police officer will be able to issue a fine of 90 euros against this young woman. For now, “we are waiting for our approval […] we are not sworn to verbalize, ”she admits.
A schedule delay, partly linked to the health crisis, according to the Paris municipality. But the deputy mayor of Paris in charge of security wants to be reassuring: the municipal police officers are indeed “authorized to go in the public space”. “They patrol with their usual colleagues: the Paris surveillance agents (ASP), from the ranks of the police headquarters, and the security inspectors of the City of Paris (ISVP)”, he explained to the Parisian.

And the work has already started for the municipal police officers, focused on their 4 main areas of intervention: ensuring the cleanliness of the city, identifying Parisians, protecting the most vulnerable pedestrians and road users, and appeasing the city especially in the evening and at night. On November 10, official approval will finally give them authorization to wear their uniform and drive vehicles bearing the “municipal police” logo.
On this date, any incivility – such as deposits on the public highway, throwing cigarette ends, urine effusions, breaches of the rules for displays and terraces, noise pollution or various soiling – may be sanctioned at the height of of 135 euros. Note that the Parisian municipal police cannot carry out identity checks, but only carry out identity records if an offense has been committed.
