Singing in front of the audience is not always easy. We can therefore choose to push the note in private. The Salle du Karioka rue Riquet is the dream space.
Some choruses from Connemara lakes by Michel Sardou or by We are the champions de Queen… No we are not at Star Ac but simply at Karioka, a private karaoke room opened at 58 rue Riquet in Toulouse, by Antony Closa and Marie Mouret, around a few extracts from the catalog of 3200 songs. Is karaoke old fashioned? “Not at all, hastens to specify Antony Mouret. This unique room in the city is always full. Why ? Because we propose to push the note in a private room with only relatives or friends as an audience. It changes the situation ”.
According to him, as classic karaoke in front of an anonymous room has gone out of fashion, as private karaoke is on the rise. “In 2016, we were in Indonesia, the land of karaoke par excellence, continues Antony. Love at first sight for this country prompted us to open our restaurant which we returned in 2018 for various reasons. What else to do? Karaoke in its private version, we have a very relevant initiative ”.
On their return to Toulouse, the couple did not take long to buy a business in rue Riquet in 2019, and to carry out work there before an opening in March 2020, immediately canceled due to covid. “This summer, we reopened and it is working very well. The customers are very varied with a majority of 20-35 years, for 60% of women came to have fun with girlfriends against 40% of men, more shy and sensitive to the judgment to let go. There are also a few people who go solo. Including a former singer ”.

It is true that in Karioka, you can sing, hum, scream in cozy spaces with enchanting names: New York, Borneo, Marrakech or even Nuit Etoilé. Spaces to share with family or friends where you can push the bill as you wish for two hours non-stop while digitally ordering your menu.
The catalog is large and varied: Celine Dion, Garou, and even Jean-Jacques Goldman pick up the most popular titles. There are also the essential hits of the summer, metal (AC / DC), rap of course from Diam’s and NTM. But it is the musical phenomenon of Korean K-Pop that most appeals to Generation Z of 14-18 year olds, notably with the titles of the group BTS, real global successes. No less than 150 titles are also listed in the Karioka catalog. “Everyone loves to sing. You just have to feel good, ”says Antony.
