Toulouse: 80 years later, a memorial for Noah’s internment camp
A memorial was inaugurated on Friday for the deportees who passed through Noah’s internment camp, about thirty kilometers south of Toulouse.
The metal sculpture was made by Francis Berger and stands several meters high. Messages in six languages, including French, Hebrew, Spanish and German, have been entered. It cost 45,000 euros and was notably subsidized by the region, the department of Haute-Garonne and the State. Beate and Serge Klarsfeld were present at the inauguration of the memorial.
More than 3,000 people passed through the camp during the war, mainly refugees from the Spanish Civil War and then Jews, victims of persecution by the Vichy regime and the Nazi occupation, many of whom died in deportation.

300 people died in the camp, and 700 others passed through before being deported to the death camps, from where they did not return.
After the war, the camp welcomed collaborators and did not close until 1947.
The camp left few vestiges.
Another tribute was also held in Nantes on Friday, in memory of the 48 men who fell under Nazi bullets at the Bêle shooting range in Nantes, in the Sablière quarry in Châteaubriant and at Mont-Valérien in Paris.
