There are already three thousand political prisoners in Belarus
The real number of Belarusians, who are named by some human rights activists, is much higher than the 800-900 people.
This statement was made by the opposition Belarusian journalist Natalya Radina, Ukrinform reports with reference to NEXTA Live.
According to her, the dictatorial regimes on the territory of the former USSR have learned to “adapt” to the method of assessing the number of political prisoners and judge them according to those articles that are not always assessed as political. For example, “violence against a law enforcement officer” in Belarus now, says Radina, it is a political article.
Therefore, there are now not 800-900 political prisoners in Belarus, as, for example, the Belarusian human rights center Viasna, which has been removed from state registration, claims, but “at least 3 thousand people,” says Radina.
As reported, mass protests against the falsification of the results of the presidential elections, in which Alexander Lukashenko was declared the winner, have continued in Belarus since August 2020. The authorities brutally suppress speeches against the opposition and repression.
