Red Bull Salzburg has also put the toughest competitors in the Bundesliga in their place. The series champion celebrated an undisputed 4: 1 (2: 0) success on Sunday at the end of the twelfth round in the hit against Sturm Graz and increased the lead over the second in the table to eleven points. Rasmus Kristensen (5th), double scorer Adeyemi (22nd, 81st) and goalie Jörg Siebenhandl secured the eleventh victory in the twelfth game with an own goal (74th).
Jantscher had meanwhile hit the 1: 2 (50th) goal, for him it was the seventh goal of the season. This puts him on par with his teak colleague Yeboah, number two in the league behind Adeyemi, who has now expanded his lead with ten goals. After the 3-1 victory in the Champions League against VfL Wolfsburg on Wednesday, Salzburg showed no loss of performance at all, is still undefeated in league home games in the calendar year 2021 and has now scored in 43 league games in a row at home. In Sturm, the trend is down, losing four of the last five competitive games, including the most recent 0: 1 in the Europa League against Real Sociedad on Thursday.
In front of 16,512 spectators, Salzburg coach Matthias Jaissle trusted the starting line-up that started against Wolfsburg. The Graz team at home have to change their starting eleven at short notice, as captain Hierländer had to pass during the warm-up due to a slight knee injury. Borkovic, who came from Hoffenheim, made his debut in the Sturm-Dress as a left-back from the start, while Dante moved one stage forward into midfield.
The newly put together side had a lot of trouble, the ball went very well with the Salzburgers. Storm goalie Siebenhandl was already challenged in the 2nd minute with an Adeyemi shot. Three minutes later Kristensen fixed the dream start. The home side switched to something worth seeing, via Seiwald, Okafor, Sucic and Okafors heel the ball landed at the right-back, who finished in striker style for the fourth time this season.
An interim follow-up hit did not worry Salzburg
The next chance led to the next hit. After a pass from Ulm, Okafor prevailed in the running duel with the ex-Salzburg Affengruber and Adeyemi easily used his cross with the outside instep in the middle. The people of Salzburg make the best use of the rooms that the people of Graz offered them. But the Styrians could also set accents forward and came close to the connection goal twice. After an ideal Gorenc-Stankovic hole pass, Jantscher ran towards Köhn alone, but found his master in the Swiss goalkeeper (35th). Two minutes later, a yeboah header went over it. Salzburg could have closed the bag for good, Nicolas Seiwald put a volley from six meters over the housing (40th).
After the restart, the Grazer Schnell reports back. Köhn was only able to parry a Yeboah shot briefly and Jantscher took off from a short distance. The hosts were not impressed by this, immediately shifted up a gear and worked for chance after chance. Okafor (53rd, 58th) and Seiwald (59th) lacked efficiency, a penalty after fouling Adeyemi was rightly withdrawn after studying video because of a previous offense (54th).
The number three goal conceded went to Graz itself. A Wüthrich return that was anything but sharp could not contain Siebenhandl and the ball rolled into the goal, the rescue attempt in follow-up came behind the line. For the final point, Adeyemi made a powerful shot in the penalty area after he had made the necessary space. Salzburg showed that the most recent 1-1 draw in Altach was just a slip-up. As in the 3-1 win in Graz, Sturm was defeated at the start of the season.
