The new Prime Minister of Japan, Fumio Kishida, will make the return of part of the Kuril Islands one of his main goals. Such a forecast in the comments of URA.RU gave Professor of the Pacific State University, political scientist Ildus Yarulin.

In his opinion, first Kishida will try to buy the islands, then put pressure on Russia. After that, economic sanctions may come into play, and then the creation of nuclear weapons. However, the only condition under which Russia will return the Kuril Islands to Japan will be, according to the political scientist, defeat in the war.

Yarulin is sure that, first of all, Japan is interested in the strategic importance of the part of the Kuril ridge to which it claims – these are Kunashir, Shikotan, Iturup and Habomai. World Ocean.
