Residents of Weesp will pay significantly more for waste through merger with Amsterdam
The rate for collecting waste will be considerably higher in Weesp. At present, multi-person households still pay 302 euros waste levy, but that rate will be equalized next year with that of Amsterdam and that will be approximately 140 euros higher. Single-person households pay about 100 euros more.
This is evident from a municipal piece meeting next Thursday in the Stopera. Equalizing the prices is the result of the merger between Amsterdam and Weesp, which was completed from March 24, 2022. Weesp has been an ‘urban area’ of Amsterdam from that moment on.
To replace
“As soon as the merger with Weesp is complete, the Ordinance on the rates of waste levy from Weesp will be withdrawn and replaced by the Ordinance on Waste Tax and Cleaning Law for Commercial Waste 2022 of Amsterdam”, the document from the municipality of Amsterdam reads. “This is necessary because different rates of waste levy may not be levied within one municipality.”
According to the municipality, the tax department is currently preparing “to make the collection process for residents of Weesp as easy and clear as possible”. In the new Amsterdam waste levy, which takes effect in 2022, the rate for single-person households is 331 euros and 441 euros for multi-person households.
Higher than 2021
That is clearly a few euros more than Amsterdam residents pay this year, because the rate is now 326 euros for single-person households and 435 euros for multi-person households. The municipality points out that the processing costs and wage costs have increased, that more households have been added and that the work processes are not in order.
The city council will probably vote on the rate increase for Amsterdammers and residents of Weesp next Thursday, November 10.
