Assisted suicide: The government has gone to great lengths to reach consensus on an issue where there can be no consensus.
When it comes to the last big questions, there is a path leading to each other. The government succeeded in finding an answer in good time to the incredibly difficult task set by the Constitutional Court, namely that assistance in suicide should no longer be punished at the same time, but abuse must be prevented. The draft of a death disposition law testifies to the serious effort to approach the diametrically opposed viewpoints – depending on the person concerned – and not to disturb either side completely. That is an achievement that can only be given respect.
