Mergers and acquisitions of companies in Portugal moved 9.5 billion until September – O Jornal Económico
The Portuguese transactional market registered, until September, 361 transactions and had a turnover of 9.5 billion euros, and, of the more than 300 deals, only 47% had their values revealed to the market, according to the most recent report released by the technological-financial platform Transactional Track Record (TTR) and by the transaction management software company Datasite.
The number of transactions thus registered an increase of 25% in the accumulated until the third quarter of this year, compared to the same period of 2020. In the third quarter alone, 141 mergers and acquisitions were registered, between announced and closed, for a total of 4, 1 billion euros.
However, there was a 38% decrease in the capital raised in the first nine months of this year.
Spain was the country that invested the most in Portugal, accounting for 47 operations. The United States came in second, with 29 operations. North American companies increased their acquisitions in the Portuguese market by 141%, mobilizing 1.1 billion euros in the period under review. The British made 20 purchases.
“Portuguese companies chose Spain as their main investment destination, with 19 transactions. Followed by Brazil and the United Kingdom, with five operations each”, reads the TTR document on the country.
Unsurprisingly, the technology sector led the way in classification as the most active, with 68 transactions, with real estate in second place, with 53 operations, and financial (banking and insurance), with a total of 39 transactions, came in third.
“Foreign acquisitions in the technology and internet sector increased by 176% compared to the same period in 2020. In relation to foreign funds from private equity and venture capital [capital de risco] that invest in Portuguese companies, there was a 21% drop until September 2021 ″, detail the transactional information aggregators.
O to lead The quarter was the registration of the capital increase in the amount of 177 million euros by Greenvolt, within the scope of the IPO concluded by the renewable energy company da Altri. Supporting the energy were CaixaBank, Banco Santander, BNP Paribas, JB Capital Markets, Vieira de Almeida and PLMJ.
