The one earned on the home courts of the Villa Reale Tennis in Monza, for the V-Team, is a very important point. On the fourth day of the Serie A2 2021 championship, the third match of the season (after last Sunday’s rest session), the Brianza team stopped the Match Ball Firenze, one of the most famous teams of the entire group 2, on a score of 3-3. A draw that is good for the standings and confidence and which, even, can be close to the hosts.
We have said an important point: yes, because at the same time it allows the Venetians of Bassano del Grappa to be linked in the ranking, defeated by leaders Palermo 5-1, and even to overcome them in 4th place in the group by virtue of the number of matches won: 11 for the Brianza-based players from the start of the championship to today, 10 for the 2013 Italian Champions.
At the same time, the point won against Florence allows the V-Team to lead Tc Lecco by four points, bottom of the group and still stationary at 0 points, but also to keep the Piedmontese Ronchiverdi (Turin) behind, now at 3. This is how the challenge that the V-Team will have to face takes on the tone of the key match. Next November 14th against the Turinese: from there there will be a good chance of reaching the goal set at the beginning of the season, that of keeping the category. In between, the match against Lecce coach Mario Stasi, second in the standings, to be challenged away next Sunday.
The draw against the Match Ball Firenze has matured in constant comeback. First in the singles, in which the V-Team had to mend a 2-0 disadvantage due to the defeats of Davide Albertoni (7-5 6-2 by the Croatian Viktor Galovic) and Andrea Borroni, who also led for a set to zero at the start (1-6 6-3 6-4 by Andrea Meduri).
The run-up led first to the signing of the French Mathias Bourgue, number 228 of the ATP ranking, who prevailed in the two sets in the all-French under derby against Hugo Grenier (no.188 in the world); and then that of Gianmarco Ferrari, good at overcoming Lorenzo Sciahbasi with a double 6-4. With the verdict postponed to the doubles, and with the couple formed by Bourgue and Manfred Fellin defeated by the duo Galovic / Grenier in two sets, it was the turn of the Albertoni / Borroni nursery team from Brianza to give the break to decide to get to a draw.
Realized precisely at the photo finish, that is to say at the super tie-break that in doubles matches replaces the third set (3-6 7-5 10/7 the result of the match). “If we look at the classification, this is an important point – comments the captain and technical director of the V-Team Duvier Medina – but the way the match went, there is even a bit of a bitterness in the mouth because he was also able to take home the full loot against a playoff candidate formation. Now let’s keep thinking game after game ”. With many positive notes to rely on. “We need to recover and be cold in the decisive moments but there is the awareness that this team can do really well”.
