The drainage of the swampy Lake Balaton was planned in three phases.

Krieger’s map despite the plan not being implemented a real curiosity, as it is the first realistic representation of Lake Balaton.
Later, however, a solution had to be found for the floods, and in the end, fortunately, it was decided not to drain but to regulate the water level, and the flood problem was finally solved by the Sió canal, which was opened in 1863.
