Breakdown in vaccination campaign in Zurich – health workers were waiting with syringes – not a single person came

Great frustration in the Peter and Paul parish in Zurich: A vaccination campaign should take place on Sunday. But everything went wrong that could go wrong.

On Sunday, Father Martin Stewen hoped to reach several people who would like to be vaccinated in a vaccination campaign in his parish.
-
But it turned out differently: at the end of the morning not a single person was vaccinated.

The poorly prepared vaccination team is to blame for this.
One breakdown after the other: on Sunday not a single person was vaccinated in the Zurich parish of Peter and Paul, although a vaccination campaign was planned there. The reason: Everything went wrong that could sleep: First the vaccination mobile got stuck in the garage in the morning. “We have received the information that there was a prisoner in a garage in Uster behind a jamming barrier,” said Priest Martin Stewen to the portal.kath.ch». “That alone is kind of absurd – but it can happen,” he says calmly.
But then the chaos continued. «The vaccination team was poorly prepared in terms of advertising and had no campaign material with them. You have to imagine it this way: everything is perfectly prepared in the parish hall. The health workers wait for customers with syringes and vaccines – but nothing happens. There was no advertising banner, no display, nothing at all, ”says Priest Stewen.
Health workers waiting with syringes – no one came
The advertising material was essential for a successful vaccination campaign. Because as Martin Stewen himself explains, the parish hall is a bit out of the way. “Not ideal for walk-in customers either. If you want to motivate people to vaccinate, you have to do some advertising on site. “
In addition, something else had been agreed with the health department of the canton of Zurich: “Our caretaker measured everything so that the requirements for the vaccination mobile were actually met,” says the priest. You had to fill out a form in advance and specify in detail what the circumstances on site were like. Instead, the nurses and health care workers sat on Sunday “well hidden and away from the public” and waited for customers.
Priest Stewen is pissed off like him himself on Facebook states: “Without a vaccine mobile and without campaigns, such an action is relatively pointless. We did what we could. But I can’t take any advertising material out of my hat. At some point I had to go to church to celebrate the service. “
It’s clear why Switzerland has a low vaccination rate
If vaccination campaigns always run like this, then it is clear «why Switzerland has one of the lowest vaccination rates in Europe», says the clergyman. The director of health of the head of the department, Natalie Rickli (SVP), did not deliver what it needed to promote an “urgently needed vaccination campaign”, says Stewen.
The priest is always ready for a second chance. “Actually, we already have a second appointment – on November 21st. The war meant for the second vaccination. We are happy to do the whole thing again and make our premises available, ”he says. But then right: “The PR campaign would have to completely support the health department this time.”
