A record was set in wheelchair dance in Hanover
Hanover. You just missed your goal, but it was obviously enough for a record. In Isernhagen in the Hanover region, two dance couples from the limited sports club “Rolling Chairs” set a world record, like the one “New Press” (NP) reported. The two pairs of wheelchair users and pedestrians danced a total of 20 hours from Friday to Saturday in Altwarmbüchener A2-Center. However, it does not quite reach her personal benchmark.
Because the original plan was to dance non-stop for a total of 24 hours. A novelty in practical wheelchair dance. In the end, the strength is not quite enough. A mutated cold to spoil the game. “We are still extremely proud,” said participant Rebekka Schmidt, who was there as a so-called pedestrian, the “NP”.
Dancing couples receive booking requests
The world record attempt began on Friday. The dance couple had explored the rules in advance together with the Record Institute for Germany (RID). For example, partners may not be swapped, but a ten-minute break was allowed every hour. The dance couples lasted 20 hours before one of the dance partners had to give up on Saturday, completely exhausted because of a cold. “We would have packed it,” said Werner Hinz, “but health comes first.”
Nevertheless, there was enough reason to be happy. Not only that the dance couples received numerous expressions of sympathy and booking inquiries for performances and integration work in schools: In the end, the dance marathon still set a world record. As the RID subsequently announced, 20 hours of non-stop wheelchair dance was a previously undocumented record.
