Vienna, Maria José Siri will be Abigaille in Nabucco at the Staatsoper – Connected to the Opera
The 1st and 6th November, 2021, Maria José Siri she will play the role of Abigaille in Nabucco for the first time at the Vienna State Opera. “I am thrilled to bring Abigaille, one of the most recent additions to my repertoire, to the Vienna State Opera”, Maria José Siri, “Abigaille is a truly established role, with so many facets, from fury to love, from desire for revenge to remorse. Playing such a diverse character is very rewarding for me as an artist. Vocally I consider it a bel canto role, like all those of the first Verdi. It requires not only vocal power and physical stamina, but also a lot of pianissimo singing, delicate phrasing and agility. “
The Uruguayan-born soprano made her debut in the role of Abigaille in the 2020/2021 season of the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino alongside Plácido Domingo’s Nabucco, and has just reprized this month at the Petruzzelli Theater in Bari in a series of performances ending on October 26. She made her debut at the Vienna State Opera in the 2012/13 season in the role of Tosca, returning there in that of Maddalena in Andrea Chenier in 2014, again in that of Tosca in 2015, in the role of Madama Butterfly in 2017 and for the inauguration of the 2017/18 season in the role of Leonora in The Troubadour.
The staging of Nabucco in Vienna, the first of which took place in 2001, is by Günter Krämer. For this shoot he will be directed by Paolo Carignani. Replacing Anna Netrebko, Maria José Siri will share the stage with Amartuvshin Enkhbat in the title role, Massimo Giordano in Ishmael’s, Roberto Tagliavini in the guise of Zechariah and Szilvia Vörös in those of Fenena.
