Mike James would like to make AS Monaco history
Mike James returned to Vitoria for a Euroleague match yesterday and Noticias de Allava took the opportunity to ask the American rear of AS Monaco what he thought of his stay at Baskonia from 2014 to 2016. He also discussed his goals with the Roca Team.
“I remember I arrived very young. A lot of the players I have met are now at the biggest clubs in Europe and doing great things, and that says a lot about Baskonia’s work. I wouldn’t highlight a specific moment, I keep all the experience, what I learned and the good times I spent with my colleagues.
This is for the club. On the other hand, Mike James did not keep a very good memory of the Basque city. He also had his point of view on social networks, which had been badly perceived:
“Vitoria is boring and anyone who knows her knows it, I never understood why people were angry when I said that. There is nothing to do here. Imagine that I came as a 24 year old boy, living alone, without a family, and I was very bored. There are some great restaurants where I went with my teammates, but nothing more. I didn’t even go to the movies because when I was here there were still no sessions in English, I spend the day at home. There are more things to do in Monaco.
He is asked why he chose to pursue his career at ASM:
“It was the club that best matched what I was looking for. I wanted to go to a place where I felt like playing on my team. Even when I signed for CSKA, I didn’t feel like the team was mine, but rather that I was joining someone else’s team. Monaco is a new project and this is their first year in the Euroleague. I’d like people to say this team grew up with Mike James. And about the common goal, he says: “To be competitive. I think if we fight every game and qualify for the playoffs we can finish with our heads held high. It would be a big step forward for next season.
