“It is only me who can beat Emmanuel Macron” declares Xavier Bertrand in Toulouse
Xavier Bertrand came to Toulouse on Saturday 23 October. A few weeks before the Congress of Republicans, which must nominate the party’s sole candidate for the presidential election, he met local activists to convince him to support him during this internal primary.
He also lambasted government aid. “I would not have waited three months. (…) It was this summer that there were purchasing powers and fuel, it took three months for him to make a decision”, considering that he had already made this decision six years ago in his region, Hauts-de-France.
We had to stop the tax on petroleum products, it is because we put an end to this tax racketeering – Xavier Bertrand on government announcements
“We’re going to have Christmas every month until April, we have a president campaigning with France’s checkbook” hammered Xavier Bertrand in front of Toulouse activists, while ensuring the after-sales service of his promise: that each full-time person earns 1,500 euros net per month. By resuming the “Work more to earn more” of Nicolas Sarkozy does not seem to fit into the lineage.
During his trip to Toulouse, Xavier Bertrand also felt that he was particularly the candidate of the territories in this primary. “You feel it particularly in the media when you are in the provinces, rather than in Paris. If it is the Parisian scene which votes, it is certain that I have less my chances. With the French people, that is discussed”.
Toulouse, obligatory passage before the primary?
“Only I can beat Emmanuel Macron in the second round of the presidential election”, Xavier Bertrand repeated several times in front of activists. This is not the first LR candidate in the presidential election to go to Toulouse to try to convince voters before the primary.
Valérie Pécresse is taking place and should return shortly, Philippe Juvin as well. Eric Ciotti is expected him within fifteen days. Toulouse, a must before the primary? “It’s a big federation so yes it is one of the emblematic cities of the South-West. In a Tour de France, we have to stop in Toulouse” believes Louis Bontemps, 24 years old. The president of the Jeunes LR du Lot was able to ask him about “a whole bunch of subjects and in particular on the issue of access to work for young people”.
“We go around the different candidates, we listen to all the proposals and we will have our choice to make in the coming weeks. But my choice is not definitively finalized” pursuit of the young activist LR. Verdict on December 4 with the Party Congress.
While he was meeting activists on the Place du Capitole, in a café under the arcades, it was impossible for the president of the Hauts-de-France region not to cross the square to the Town Hall. Discreetly, Xavier Bertrand met the mayor of Toulouse, Jean Luc Moudenc, before going to the Stade Toulouse – Castres Olympique match. It will be Sunday in Montauban.
