I graduated sober. I defended my diploma after tequila, says Mrs. Jana
Mrs. Jana got drunk for the first time at the age of 16. “When I had a drink, I lost all stress. I was terribly ashamed and afraid to perform in front of people, “Jana, who did not want to publish her surname, describes her beginnings with alcohol.
She liked to go to discos, she usually had a glass at home before the start to have talent. “Everyone drank there, so I didn’t realize it was a problem. I drank more than the others and often didn’t remember any of it. Gradually, it escalated, I graduated soberly, I already defended my diploma after two shots of tequila, “he says.
At the age of 27, she started treatment at the women’s department for addiction treatment at the General University Hospital in Prague U Apolináře. Since its founding 50 years ago in October 1971, almost five and a half thousand patients have been. And he is definitely not in need of patients today. Mrs. Jana has been abstaining for thirteen years. According to statistics, ten years after treatment, one third of admitted women now abstain and almost two thirds of those who have completed it properly.
“Before the job interview, I had at least two shots. Later, the intervals lengthened, I often drank all weekend. During the week, I opened a bottle of wine in the evening and drank half, later it was the whole bottle. I got up at 6 o’clock in the morning and went for a run, that was no problem, “Jana describes. According to her, one changes mentally and does not admit the problem. If any do the others, wine from it.
Eating disorders
In addition, there were problems with eating disorders. “I had terrible conditions, I had to have a glass in the morning, sometimes I even vomited it, my stomach could no longer. But I had to drink another so I could work and go to work. At work, I had coffee and secretly poured vodka into it, “says Jana.
I found out that he has a problem with alcohol in the 26s, a year before starting treatment at the Apolinaries. She thought that things would get better if she changed jobs and broke up with the partner she got into debt for. Once, she lasted a week at the cost of heavy abstinence. “After a week, I went to Prague to work in boats and a costume. I bought a bottle for the trip. I didn’t get there, of course. I don’t remember any of that. I woke up somewhere in the park and I just know that some guys robbed me, “he says.
She was forced to be treated by her own fear of completely losing control of her life at the age of 27 and the support of her parents. “I found a thousand excuses as to why I had the right to drink because I had strict parents, hard work, bad luck with my partner,” he calculates.
According to Olga Pecinovská, head of the Department of Addictology at the General University Hospital, most women come to her ward as unemployed or have a condition of treatment from their employer. “Women’s drinking is very stigmatized in society. This contributes to the fact that women do not go to us on time, they are devastated by drinking, “describes Pecinovská.
That women are much more endangered by the broom of humanity than men is certainly not a cliché, according to experts. It is not only the physiological differences between the two sexes that also cause a slower breakdown of toxic substances. “Women usually suffer because of their mental state, I try to eliminate the problems. For men, the development is more social. They regularly consume alcohol with friends and later add mental problems, “explained the head of the clinic of addictology Petr Popov.
Mrs. Jana regularly goes to Apolinářs after treatment and autumn program stays, according to her words with regularity as people celebrate Easter or Christmas.
