Russian film “Parent” about drug addiction won 8 prizes at the New York Film Festival
The film by the director from St. Petersburg Vlad Furman received eight prizes at the New York Film Festival. Actors Mikhail Porechenkov, Maria Shukshina and Angelina Strechina were also awarded. The film also won the Grand Prix of the festival.

The film tells the story of a father who, in order to save his daughter, who became a heroin addict, is forced to sink to the bottom of the life of St. Petersburg in the late 90s. Prizes for the roles were received by Mikhail Porechenkov, Vlad Furman himself, as well as Maria Shukshina and Angelina Strechina. The film was awarded the Grand Prix of the competition.
What happened in New York is just some kind of miracle. Our film was watched by people living in another part of the world, they do not know that famous Russian actors starred there, did not see the dashing 90s, that is, they were completely impartial, and they accepted the picture! This is the most precious thing for me
– told Furman “Petersburg Diary”. According to him, he did not expect that the picture will receive eight awards at once, “therefore, it is still a little shocked.”
According to the director, the script was based on the story of the daughter of his acquaintances, who became a drug addict. While searching for the missing girl in the city, Furman was struck by a young man who was distributing doses to teenagers of thirteen. This incident reminded him of the legend of the Pied Piper of Gamelin, who, playing the pipe, took the children away to certain death.
Recent topics are being discussed less and less, but the problem has not gone anywhere: new drugs have appeared.
