Portugal ‘champion’ with islands and the Algarve highlighted
FORortugal any and follows. The country brought home more than two hands full of awards at the 28th edition of the World Travel Awards (WTA), known as ‘the Oscars of tourism’.
This edition of the WTA was marked by the number of awards that Portugal chose. In addition to the 21 national categories, Portugal won a total of 25 European awards, including “Best Adventure Tourism Destination” for the Autonomous Region of the Azores, “Best Beach Destination” for the Algarve, or “Best Destination” Insular “for the Autonomous Region of Madeira.
Added to this are the awards for the “Best Cruise Terminal” for the Cruise Terminal in Lisbon and the “Best Tourist Authority” for Tourism in Portugal. The Paiva Walkways also won two distinctions, the “Best Adventure Tourism Attraction” and the “Best Tourism Development Project”.
The awards called to Portugal are the result of an online voting, open to the public and tourism and travel professionals worldwide.
