It is a public transport project expected north of Toulouse because, in the short term, it is the only one that will expect it.
While the Boulevard Urbain Nord (BUN) is back in the boxes before, perhaps out of it, the Linéo 10 bus line project has entered concrete.
From Fenouillet to Toulouse
This bus line, 10.8 kilometers long, will go from the Fenouillet shopping center to the La Vache metro station.
The line will pass through the municipalities of Fenouillet, Saint-Alban, Fonbeauzard, Aucamville and Toulouse.
3.4 kilometers of bus lanes
As for the 9 other Linéo lines, the buses will run continuously from 5.15 a.m. to 12.30 a.m. and until 1 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. During rush hour, this bus will save 10 minutes of travel according to Tisséo’s estimates, in particular because of the new bus lanes which have been created over 3.4 kilometers out of the 10.8 of the route.
Circulation needed to increase
This line, which will cost € 16.7 million, will be put into service in an area of the Toulouse metropolitan area particularly affected by traffic jams.
Very clearly, in recent years, the north of Toulouse has become hell for its inhabitants. With the galloping urbanization of recent years, traffic has continued to increase. Crossing Aucamville, Saint-Alban, Castelginest, Launaguet and L’Union are adventurous during rush hour. This territory is clearly on the verge of asphyxiation.
And given the number of homes that must be built in the years to come, the trend is not about to be reversed.
Travel for work
The future bus line is part of this context of asphyxiation of the road network, in particular along the road from Fronton to Aucamville.
Economically dynamic, this area has, year after year, become a significant employment area.
“6,400 people enter the area every day to work, including 1,300 from Toulouse. Conversely, including 4,500 inhabitants of the area work outside the northern municipalities in Toulouse, details the Urbanism and Development Agency of the agglomeration (AUAT).
This ensures the transit traffic to Toulouse but also many trips between the different municipalities in the north of Toulouse.
2% of short trips by public transport
According to data from the Urbanism and Urban Planning Agency (AUAT), there are 600 daily exchanges between the municipalities of Aucamville, Saint-Alban, Fonbeauzard and Fenouillet. Still according to the AUAT, “2,000 workers work in their municipality of residence and among this sample, on average, 64% are there by car, 12% on foot, 5% in two-wheeled vehicles, whether motorized or not, and only 2 % by public transport ”.
So many short trips that could be captured by the new bus. This is Tisséo’s objective.
Now, as with all the structuring public transport projects launched by Tisséo, the organizing authority is trying to prepare the project with future constructions to come along the line.
An urban pact to better anticipate
On Wednesday, October 20, 2021, an “urban pact”, whose “objective is to ensure a more effective articulation between urban and mobility policies in the sectors served by the Linéo 10”, according to Tisséo, was approved.
In the coming months, several urban operations will continue and the idea, with the Linéo 10, was to bring public transport as close as possible to homes.
The will, ultimately, to extend the line
According to Tisséo projections, “in comparison with its current situation, the Linéo 10 will serve 3,800 inhabitants and 3,200 additional jobs in its 400m corridor.
With the idea, in the long term, of extending the line to Fenouillet station to the north and to Toulouse city center to the south.
“A project at a discount”
Announcements and figures that were not convinced Odile Maurin, opposition metropolitan councilor of the Alternative Métropole Citoyenne group who spoke of “a project at a discount” during a city council meeting in June 2021. She then explained:
“We do not succeed and do not trace serious substantiated evidence that allows us to say that the
Linéo 10, as you conceive it in the short term, and for lack of arguments on the medium and long term, will be chosen other than a project at a discount. This Lineo 10 does not allow the modal ratio necessary to put an end to the inconvenience of abusive traffic experienced by the north of Toulouse. As one of our colleagues, elected at Lespinasse said, you are not in anticipation, but just in relation to what is already being reacted ”.
Response in 2022-2023.
