Matvienko: Russia will fulfill its obligations on gas supplies to Europe
Russia will fulfill its obligations under all signed contracts for the supply of energy resources to Europe, and will also try to implement additional orders, if any. About this for the chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko in an interview with the TV channel to the parliament of Greece during a working visit to Athens.
Gas prices on European exchanges have jumped to historic highs this fall. In this regard, the five countries of the European Union – France, Spain, Czech Republic, Romania and Greece – are investigating the reasons for the record jump in quotations. According to analysts, the price of gas futures was influenced by the approach of winter.
“Everything that Russia is obliged to supply to Europe this winter, next year, we will certainly deliver in full. And if we have the opportunity and will have additional orders, then we will try to implement additional orders for the supply of gas, ”Matvienko stressed. “I think that this situation, which happened with the explosive wave of rising gas prices, will teach a lot.”
The Chairperson of the Federation Council drew attention to the fact that Europe is frightened by excessive dependence on energy resources from Russia. “It is not true. This is not true, ”the Russian politician emphasized. She pointed out that Russia has never broken contracts or violated its obligations to supply energy raw materials to Europe.
“There is no need to be afraid of energy dependence on Russia. There was just a rise in prices, because there they put a high price in the United States to Europe. Russia will fulfill all its obligations, ”Matvienko stressed.
The speaker also noted Moscow’s interest in concluding long-term contacts for the supply of hydrocarbons to Europe. With this approach, we know in advance the amount of energy raw materials that will need to be supplied, which allows Russia to invest in new fields and increase gas production.
Valentina Matvienko added that the European Union itself, and not Russia, chooses the energy policy. – said the politician.

The Chairperson of the Council stressed the need to go step by step, but, according to her, it is impossible to go step by step, as the problems are solved. “It is still impossible to give up coal, gas, oil, because new green energy technologies will make it possible to fully meet Europe’s needs for energy resources,” the speaker noted.
A Federation Council delegation headed by Matvienko is in Greece with a working table to participate in the European Conference of Presidents of Parliament. The events take place on October 21-22 in Athens under the auspices of the Parliamentary Session of the Council of Europe.
