A first in Europe! The Ministers of Justice and Internal Security announced on Friday morning that each Luxembourg household to have four cannabis plants.
This is an announcement that has not finished talking about it. While the famous cannabis decriminalization project promised by the coalition agreement had already been rejected many times, on October 25 the Luxembourg government formalized its desire to authorize cultivation (and therefore use). This at the rate of four feet per household.
The decision of the Grand Duchy is a milestone in Europe where no State had dared to take this path. And the authorities did not hide that their announcement had often been rejected due to international pressure. We know, in particular, that France was formally opposed to this tolerance.
From now on, any Luxembourg citizen of full age will therefore be able to legally grow his cannabis plants, but for their own personal use alone, it is clearly specified.
This Friday, the Ministers of Justice and Homeland Security, were also part of their intention to vote in the House a reduction in sanctions affecting any person in possession of less than three grams of cannabis on him. A “light procedure” could be put in place with seizure of the drug, and a fine of between 25 and 500 euros (against 251 to 5,000 euros currently). It was also specified that this type of light seizure did not entail any entry in the criminal record of the person thus checked.
