Kapravelos: Explosion of mole cases if they do not show measures in the three days
The director of “Papanikolaou” invites the metropolitan of Thessaloniki to follow the example of Jerome for the doxology of Agios Dimitrios
“The scientific community of the hospital as a whole, which I express, is categorical that we have no other possibilities. The strengths of the system are coming to an end. “Either the whole hospital has to become Covid again or we have to make a selection of cases”, the coordinating director of the 2nd ICU of “G. Papanikolaou » Nikos Kapravelos, adding that the dilemma of choice is nightmarish.
“The verse, if you listen to it, is: to take a young man who is lighter but has a chance to go out or to take an older man who is heavier and less likely to go out. Both are Virgin Mary helpers. You can not choose “, he pointed out and continued:” Today (yesterday, Thursday) addressed a 62-year-old woman and I immediately put in a small patient over 70 years old. The choice is a nightmare, but what to do? You have to get one, you do not have two gaps “.
Today, the hospital treats a total of 110 patients with coronavirus, of which 80 in the Covid-19 wards and 30 in the two ICUs. The proportion of serious cases is higher than the previous waves of the pandemic, even from the nightmarish second wave for Thessaloniki, in November and December 2020. “It may reach up to 250 patients, but in the ICU were the 45. The ratio was better “, notes Mr. Kapravelos and connects the event with the delay in seeking medical help. “Many come with a reservation and very late, because they hear the misinformation that has done a lot of damage. “The result is that they already have bigger complications and are in a worse condition”, he emphasizes.
Explosion on November 10, if there are no measures in the three days
A few days before the celebrations for the triple celebration of the liberation of Thessaloniki, the patron saint Agios Dimitrios and the national anniversary, the anxiety intensifies for crowds that can lead to further rejuvenation, given last year’s painful experience. The intensivist rings the alarm bell, asking even at the last minute to take measures, such as holding parades without an audience and praising only with vaccinated people.
“I am also talking to the Region about the issue. When I say parades without spectators, I do not mean that anyone who goes to see it will eat wood, but if you forbid it, as few people as possible will go. It should not become a source of over-transmission. We saw what happened in Naoussa. “A wedding took place, with five infected people and they infected everyone else,” he stressed.
Regarding the doxology in I.N. Agios Dimitrios, Mr. Kapravelos invites the Metropolitan of Thessaloniki Anthimos to follow the example of Archbishop Ieronymos.
“The Church plays a positive role, I saw the lightning and thunder of the Archbishop that whoever does not want, to go home. Here, too, the metropolitan must go out and say that the celebration should take place in all its splendor, but only with those who have been vaccinated. To respect the struggle we are doing, we are all exhausted “, he underlined, to add:” Our problem is neither the national holiday – that is, we are not patriots? – nor the religious ceremony. It is the over-concentration and over-transmission hotspots that will be created in ambient conditions and temperature drop. I am waiting for November 10, not an explosion that we have today but an explosion. And, okay, we can’t do it anymore. “
The redistribution
At the beginning of the week, an internal redistribution of the Intensive Care Units took place at the hospital “G. Papanikolaou ”of Thessaloniki, in order to provide a solution to an emergency situation, as many patients were intubated outside the ICU in at least three hospitals in the city. Under the coordination of the Operations Center of EKEPY-EKAB, the 1st ICU of the 8 beds that until then was treated only for “pure” cases, was transformed into a Covid-19 ICU, with the other patients being treated in it being transferred to the partially operating C ICU, donated by the Commission “Greece 2021”, as well as to other hospitals.
This move gave a temporary “breath” to the health system of the co-capital, which was suffocating. Within a few hours, the 8 beds were covered, as three intubated patients who were treated outside the ICU in the same hospital (two in surgeries and one in the Covid-19 ward), as well as intubated patients from AHEPA and Papageorgiou were transferred to it.
Together with the 22 beds of the 2nd ICU, the “G. Papanikolaou ”now has 30 intensive care beds for coronavirus, which are again completely covered, as well as the vast majority of beds in the other major hospitals in the city. With the pandemic on the rise and the pressure growing steadily, it is unknown how the next crisis will be dealt with.
