Florence circular city, the second phase with digital bins is underway
After completing the transformation of the “door to door” collection system, which at full capacity 28 thousand users, the second phase of the transformation of the collection, according to the project “Florence Circular City”, which plans to improve the quality and quantity of materials collected separately through theuse of “digital” street containers, which can be opened with the A-pass, the personal electronic key which will be delivered to all users registered with Tari, recording every single contribution made.
Because of this, Monday 25 October, the distribution of the new electronic key will begin to the first 5000 users of the Le Cure – Faentina area, where the first ones will then be positioned 250 bins opening equipment with electronic access. The sectors of Florence affected by the transformation with road containers are 13 and will involve, between now and 2023, about 200 thousand users, touching all the Districts.
“I thank the citizens for the great commitment shown in progressing in this model of waste collection – said the mayor to continue”.
To inform about the new collection system and the use of the A-pass in the Le Cure – Faentina area, they have been organized two public meetings, which will be attended by representatives of the municipal administration and Alia technicians: Tuesday 26 October, at 6.30 pm, live streaming on Alia’s YouTube channel; and Wednesday 3 November, at 5.30 pm, in presence in the market area of Piazza delle Cure.
To this first area will follow similar activity in the remaining part of the city sector concerned, in the Fortezza, Milton and The Temple areas: a total of 20 thousand users involved will receive the A-pass in this first area, where 1450 new bins will be located.
Each single collection station will consist of 5 containers placed side by side, each destined for a different material (organic, plastic-metal-polystyrene-tetrapak packaging, glass, paper and cardboard and non-differentiable residual waste). With the exception of the glass packaging container, all others must be opened via the A-pass to be able to confer the related materials, so as to record every single contribution made.
The home delivery of the A-pass in the Le Cure – Faentina area, estimated in about 15 weeks, will be issued by well-recognized Alia authorized personnel and those who will be able to collect their key from the Alia infopoint. The installation of the first road containers will begin from mid-December equipped with electronics that will gradually be located throughout the territory e so allow to starts the service in the new year.
“The dumpster with technological access fits into a city that invests more and more on data and on the traceability of waste – specified the Councilor for the Environment Cecilia Del Re – to increase the quantity and quality of separate waste collection and therefore the recycling of materials. The door to door, where there is also the tracking of data, has already brought significant data in this sense and we thank the citizens for their commitment in this delicate step. We are accompanying this phase with the district presidents, and we will continue to monitor it together with the start of this second chapter of the Firenze Città Circolare plan, starting with the first two public assemblies where with Alia we will illustrate the work of these new bins. It will be an equally delicate phase because everyone will always be changed, an important investment to achieve the objectives set by Europe and reach the landfills ”.
Once all the first sector has been transformed, Cure-Faentina-Fortezza- Milton-Il Tempio, from January 2022 similar activities will concern sector 2, Corsica-Rifredi-Viale Gori areas, where 13,500 users will be involved and 870 new “digital” bins. Afterwards, all the other city areas will be transformed in the same way, for arrive at the closure of the vents of the underground stations of the Historic Center and Oltrarno in the second half of 2023 – with the consequent use of the A-pass – in order to guarantee the same tracking system for transfers throughout the city of Florence.
