Vienna Ruozzi, 94, one of the last partisan relays, died. Originally from Prato di Correggio, she lived in the city, in the Santo Stefano area.
His memories have brought back the difficult period of the Second World War, which also marked our territory. Memories, emotions and testimony of commitment, which she handed down to school children, where she was called for initiatives related to liberation.
Born in 1927, with the nom de guerre of Anita, during the war she is one of the young women who carry the messages of the Resistance. He manages to slip under the noses of the Germans.
“It was told on a bike, the tickets hidden in the knobs, were handed over to the partisans”, he recalled, focusing on times of fear and devastation. These are tickets intended for resistance groups, or which allow you to keep in touch between families and partisans. And when the Wehrmacht senses the deception, the relays find another solution. “The messages, small in size, we put them in the hair, in the braids”, he added. The range of movement is in the countryside that leads from Correggio and Prato to Reggio.
At the end of the conflict, when the rubble is still present and the pain of mourning lingers, in the city he meets Renzo Davoli, a bricklayer who lives in Porta Santa Croce. One of the meeting points for young people of the time is the Circolo Gramsci. There you can enjoy a coffee talking about sport and politics. And of the future. The two get married in Prato, Mara and Massimo are born from the union. The husband will then work in the mines in Belgium and at the Conchiglia.
Professionally, she was employed in the technical office of the Province, in Corso Garibaldi, until she reached retirement. Later he was able to devote himself to the passions continuously. He notes in detail the recipes of the traditional “sdore” in a special diary, which he puts into practice in the kitchen, with tasty variations and little secrets about the ingredients. She takes care of the vegetable garden, flowers and plants in Vezzano, in the summer house close to Monte del Gesso, which belonged to Renzo’s relatives and restored by her husband. Numerous and pampered cats roam the courtyard. Vienna passed away peacefully, at her home, last Tuesday, surrounded by the affection of her loved ones.
He leaves two children: Mara, for thirty years atelierista in municipal preschools and collaborator of Reggio Children, and Massimo, teacher at Ipsia Galvani and D’Arzo in Montecchio. The funeral procession is scheduled for Friday at 9 from the Coviolo cemetery towards Vezzano, where Vienna Ruozzi will rest in the local cemetery with her husband.
