Berlin’s old dog souls are looking for masters with a heart – BZ Berlin
These sad eyes have seen a lot in life. The dogs still have a few weeks to live, perhaps a few precious months.
Far too often old and terminally ill four-legged friends end up in the Berlin animal shelter. Sometimes they are found exposed, sometimes their masters or mistresses have died. Often the dogs do not have much life left.
Now these animals want nothing more than a last loving home, a master with a heart.
► Taiga is around 14 years old. The Hungarian Pointing Dog (Magyar Vizsla) is covered with tumors. “He’s a very good-natured little guy for whom a last place would be so great,” says animal shelter spokeswoman Beate Kaminski. He came to the shelter because his master was seriously ill himself.
► Saba (13) has a liver tumor. “She would probably not survive an operation,” said Kaminski. The owner of the terrier-dachshund mix had to go to the hospital. The bitch lives life in the home.
► Wiesel hoped in vain for one last retreat. The nine or ten year old, very overweight mixed breed male was seized by the veterinary office.
The last few days he ate as good as nothing, an orange-sized liver tumor was growing in his stomach. Animal shelter worker makes his life bearable with medication.
It was all of no use. Yesterday Wiesel had to be put to sleep. Taiga and Saba continue to hope.
