Another climate protest in Berlin: demands on coalitions
One day after the start of the coalition negotiations between the SPD, the Greens and the FDP, the Fridays for Future movement wants to support its climate protection demands. The focus of the actions on Friday is to be Berlin, where activists from all over Germany are expected. Under the motto “You don’t give us a choice”, the demonstrators want to start at 12 noon at the Brandenburg Gate and then march through the government district. According to the police, 10,000 participants are registered. Further rallies are planned in Baden-Württemberg and Thuringia, among others. On the same day, the Swedish activist Greta Thunberg will demonstrate in her hometown Stockholm with people from all over the world for more climate protection.
The World Climate Conference, which is considered particularly important for the fight against global warming, begins in Glasgow, Scotland, at the end of October. The environmentalists from Fridays for Future are calling, among other things, for a binding phase-out of coal by 2030 and a ban on the installation of fossil combustion engines from 2025. The demonstration is part of days of action for which the alliance “Justice Now!” a called on the occasion of the coalition negotiations.
