Eau de Toulouse Métropole, the authority in charge of sanitation management at the intermunicipal level, launched in September 2020 a modernization plan for the depollution plant of Ginestous-Garonne wastewater, an odor reduction program which thus complements all the facilities already installed for this purpose.
Major works and odor reduction program
Since 1954, the wastewater treatment plant located near the Minimes, Sept-Deniers, Barrière de Paris, Ginestous and Ponts-Jumeaux districts, need to grow to follow the growth of the population of the Metropolis. But “despite the improvements made for years on the odor component, optimizations were to be expected, ”raises Eau de Toulouse Métropole.
“This is why major works began in September 2020 on the station: optimization of deodorization processes, installation of connected sensors and real-time odor modeling, containment of emissive structures, commissioning of anaerobic digestion, replacement of the thermal dryer … The aim of this work, which will continue until 2022, is to improve the quality of life of local residents “.
A participatory measurement tool: the nose jury
Eau de Toulouse Métropole has therefore decided to go further in its odor reduction program by calling on local residents, “In order to constitute a jury of nose”.
“About twenty major residents will be selected and recognized in November for the recognition of perceived odors, in order to identify their sources and measure their intensities. They can report in real time on an application, the nature and intensity of the odor nuisance. perceived “.
The aim is to ensure precise odor monitoring within a radius of 1.5 km around the plant, and thus adjust interventions on treatment structures.
How to apply to become a nose jury?
To be a nose jury, you have to living within 1.5 km of the Ginestous-Garonne wastewater treatment plant (located 2 chemin des Daturas in Toulouse), but also be of legal age, in possession of a smartphone, and have an internet connection.
