A clash on the Saint-Michel bridge, in Toulouse, in August 2018 ended yesterday in front of the criminal court. The epilogue of an accident between two motorists, quite classic at the start but which got out of hand. The victim driver, a city gendarme, caught up with the fugitive and blocked him. “I just wanted to make an observation,” explains the 52-year-old man. To achieve this, he confiscated the keys of the fugitive.
End of the story ? Not really because the duo in full confrontation was disturbed by one of the third men who wanted to attack the driver. The latter, feeling the annoyances add up, exploded: he suddenly multiplied the blows against the gendarme, recovered his keys and fled. “I’m sorry, I was afraid”, confides this little talkative man in court. In his flight he crushed the foot of his victim who spent long weeks in convalescence. And the coroner estimated at 104 (!) The number of days of total incapacity for work – a particularly long legal stop.
Investigators from the left bank of the security department recovered the file in September. The wanted driver, and quickly identified, not responding to summons, they arrested him Wednesday morning and yesterday afternoon, he appeared. The victim confided to the judges: “I had had a heart attack eleven months earlier. I felt that I was going to pick up… ”The prosecutor requested a year in prison, including 4 months suspended. In defense, Me Scaboro tries to relativize: “The rupture of the Achilles tendon explains the importance of the total incapacity for work”, argues the defender. His client avoids detention: one year suspended. Remains the compensation which will soon be examined at a hearing.
