Through Maxence Gorrègues
Fr Caen city center (Calvados), their trajectory appeals to more than one passers-by. At the corner of avenue du 6 Juin and rue de Bernières, the rails of tram go straight ahead, and they also turn left or right, depending on which way you are. Especially, those who branch off, end their course a few meters further in the… tar. But why ?
A very precious anticipation …
It is anything but a coincidence. This is quite simply the start of the east-west extension of the tram network in Caen. It is from here that the common section of the future line will start in the direction of the theater, then the prefecture, before joining the town hall via Boulevard Bertrand.
In Caen, a major network extension project is underway. The new line that will serve the Chemin Vert and Beaulieu districts, in particular, could be put into service at the end of 2027 or during the first half of 2028.
“These roads which turn towards the rue de Bernières are precious,” explains Nicolas Joyau, vice-president within the Urban Community of Caen la mer, in charge of mobility. They will be very useful during the extension work. The current tram will be able to continue to run, without interruption of service. “
