The murmur disturbs the inhabitants of Brno, he is preparing against it: neutering of the caught cats awaits castration
Dozens of wild cats were caught by a police station in Brno this year. Some of the locals complain about their loud meows and clutter. He was last caught in the Tuřany area. So far this year, there have been seventy-five animals, which have then been castrated. The city is thus trying to prevent their reproduction in the streets.
The problem with cats, for example, bothers Petr Chaloupka. “You can’t sleep because they’re meowing all night. The worst is when they grind. During the day, they make a mess at the bins again, “lamented the young man.
Similar complaints are confirmed by representatives of the Tuřany town hall. Lucie Fortelná from the Department of the Environment said that the uncontrolled number of cats resulted in polluted land and damage to property. “People are also afraid that their domestic cat will become infected with, for example, dust from the stray ones,” Fortelná said.
While in Tuřany the capture took place twice this year, in the Brno-center part they approached it for the third time. Kateřina Dobešová, a spokeswoman for the local town hall, reminded of the risks of dirty cellars and playgrounds, as well as dug gardens. “If the number of cats is higher, it is often seen and significantly felt,” she warned.
Compared to last year, the number of pieces caught is more than double. Last year, however, a coronavirus pandemic affected the regulation. “So far this year, there are seventy-five cats,” said Pavel Šoba, a spokesman for the Brno police.
It is crucial that the inhabitants do not feed the animals before capture. The police then lure them into cages for food. “The hungry are getting better. It works on the principle of a folding trap in which we place the bait. The cat steps on the stepping platform and the door closes automatically immediately. The shutter won’t hurt her in any way, “said a spokesman for Shoba.
Trapped animals end up in a city shelter. But first he will spend about ten days in quarantine. In the meantime, the veterinarian examines and castrates them. It also removes parasites, inoculates and tattoos. “It helps with evidence in case we catch them again in the future,” added Šoba. Once the animal recovers, it travels back to the streets.
The vet always finds out if the cat does not belong to someone. “We do it so we don’t accidentally castrate a cat that has an owner. Those from breeders usually have a chip, tattoo or collar. Sometimes with address and phone. In addition, they are not as timid as the wild ones, “said veterinarian Nela Fuchsová.
This year, the police also carried out mass captures of stray cats in other parts of the city: in the center, Židenice, Bohunice, Žabovřesky, Bystrc and in Starý Lískovec.
