“Serious” violence in a CE1 class near Toulouse: the concern of parents

Sugar Mizzy October 21, 2021

the essential
In a CE1 class at Georges Lapierre school, in Tournefeuille, two 6-year-old students behave “aggressively and seriously disturbing”. Many families revolt.

In the heart of Tournefeuille, the Paderne district seems very quiet. On one of the high walls of Georges Lapierre school, a sign calls for “caution, respect, security”. And yet, inside the establishment, the serenity has dissipated since the start of the school year. Some families complain of an “intolerable” climate of violence. “We were struck by a lot of parents in several classes. We made several couriers. Some children have serious problems, getting worse and worse, ”indicate an elected official from the FCPE, the federation of parents’ councils.

“An extremely serious situation”

The anxiety is at its height in a CE 1 class, where two “uncontrollable” 6-year-old students are sowing discord. A majority of families denounce “seriously disruptive behavior” and aggressive attitudes, in class, at recess, in the ranks, in the canteen: blows (including on the head), tripping, slapping, but also throwing. ‘objects, insults, howls, obscenities in full swing …

In a letter addressed to the director of the school, to the national education inspectorate, to the town hall, etc., which is circulating on social networks this week, these parents confide “their deep disarray in the face of an extremely serious situation “And explain” at home the repercussions of violence in the classroom. ” Their own children would have changed: sadness, crying, fear of going to school, stomach aches, bedwetting, waking up in the middle of the night and even morbid drawings …

“We can not continue like that, it is detrimental to health, to what our children must learn,” summarize two of the couples. The families do not hold any grudge against the teacher concerned, “who tries to provide an environment as serene as possible” and the director, whom they welcome “the concrete actions since the start of the school year”. They claim, however, that the two disruptive students be “really taken care of, in an appropriate establishment” or “benefit from specialized supervision and care.” By invoking the internal regulations, the parents promise other actions if nothing is not done. a move by mid-November.

A priori, national education has grasped the problem head-on (see below). “Faced with the emergency, it is a question of better channeling these two children, so much the better, but be careful not to neglect the other child victims. It is not for other parents to solve the problem at home, ”warns the FCPE.

The town hall of Tournefeuille and the vigilant academic inspectorate

“This affair is taking on disproportionate proportions. We cannot speak of generalized violence in this school. My office is open, I received a dad whose son had been the victim of a hook-foot. Families are on edge. The director works a lot on the subject, there have been adjustments, already a lot of exchanges, listening. The city is very attentive, ”says Rachida Lucazeau. The deputy mayor in charge of education calls for “more height, patience”. She advocates inclusive schooling but regrets “the lack of accompanying persons for children with disabilities”, the famous AESH. She is proposing a specific next “parents’ café”, on November 18, “so that everyone can talk to each other, that we find solutions”. Indeed, some families demanded exclusion; they themselves had to solve the school problem.

National education does not stand idly by. Last week, the director, “aware of the discontent” reminded all parents of the (many) actions initiated since the start of the school year “in order to find calm and serenity in the class”.

“It sometimes goes beyond national education”

“All children have the right to go to school from 3 years old. It’s our duty. Certain emerging issues in CP or CE 1. But some issues may be the framework of national education and require social and medical support. These two students, barely 6 years old, have difficulty with socialization, they are capable of sometimes violent reactions depending on the gaze of the other and group life. These are more inappropriate actions than voluntary actions, it is very complicated ”analyzes Jean-Marc Clerc, the inspector of the riding of Tournefeuille. A special organization has been set up, educational advisers, the inclusion service or a mobile team of expertise and support for schooling have come. “Teamwork to understand, prevent moments of crisis, help the teacher, find the best possible support for students, with parents. It will take a long time to see a significant evolution, teachers do not have a magic wand ”warns Jean-Marc Clerc. Does the solution go through AESH, of which the school is not the decision-maker? Perhaps, “but there is an inflation of requests”. And already a deficit of posts.
