Innsbruck – Innsbrucker Verkehrsbetriebe (IVB) has been offering rental bikes on behalf of the city since 2014. It started with 155 bicycles at 14 stations, and now there are 360 city bicycles at 43 throughout the city. A new record was set in September: With 12,742 rental transactions, that is over 424 on an average day, this September is the strongest since its inception, the strongest month of the current year and the third strongest month ever since 2014. “Cycling is good for health, good for the climate and good for traffic safety in the city, ”says Mobility City Councilor Uschi Schwarzl (Greens).
The city bikes are thus on course for a record year: With almost 117,000 rentals and thus trips, 2019 was the most successful city bike year before Corona.
Project manager Thomas Hillebrand from IVB explains the offer: “For just one euro per hour, you can borrow a city bike from any station and return it to any other station or to the loan point. It is much cheaper if you take an annual city bike subscription: It costs 39 euros a year and for users who also have a monthly or annual pass for public transport, only 29 euros per year. “(TT)
