CoV vaccination for children possible before Christmas
Bless you
In Salzburg, more and more parents want their children to be vaccinated against the corona virus. No vaccination has yet been approved for children under the age of twelve. But that could change soon.
The Salzburg pediatrician Holger Förster has been receiving vaccination requests for children under 12 every day since school began. He only vaccinates in exceptional cases, says Förster: “I currently only vaccinate children under the age of twelve if they have a chronic underlying disease. Even if there is a high cost-benefit factor for medical reasons, in terms of vaccination. ”At the moment, it is not even clear whether the vaccine will even be approved for everyone under the age of twelve, according to Förster.
Vaccination planned from six months
The only thing that is fixed is that children from six months of age should be vaccinated twice. The challenge with the coronavirus vaccination for children under 12 is the dosage, according to Förster: “It can also be that the six-month-olds – this young group – have a higher dose than the group of five to 12 – year olds. “
Doctors should consider legal issues
Doctors should also keep an eye on the legal issue when vaccinating an unapproved vaccine, advises Förster, adding that a written assignment of liability from parents does not protect the doctor: “Parents cannot accept liability. It is still the case that the doctor’s liability insurance is canceled in the event of damage. Even if it is not displayed by the patient. It can also be reported by other people or the public prosecutor’s office. ”Rainer Pusch, vaccination coordinator of the State of Salzburg, expects the vaccine to be approved for children under 12 before Christmas.
