Boadu and Monaco reveal PSV Eindhoven
Former Dutch league rookie, the expensive Monaco rookie Myron Boadu hopes to finally show his full potential Thursday (9:00 p.m.) in the Europa League on the ground of PSV Eindhoven, which the Dutch international has often beaten with AZ Alkmaar.
Between the ages of 17 and 20, the exploits of the young prodigy quickly extended beyond the borders of his native country.
His 45 goals in 98 games in all competitions for Alkmaar (including 29 in two Eredivisie seasons) earned him a selection for the national team. And his performances have made him a scorer spied on by the most advanced European clubs in the recruitment of young people with very high potential.
To snatch him from Nice, Arsenal or Sevilla FC, Monaco had to pay 17 million euros and offer him a five-year contract.
“It was not an easy transfer, acknowledged the Monegasque sporting director Paul Mitchell during the presentation of the player. It was a very long time that we followed his progress. He has developed as one of the best young European strikers. . This is a new step for the club and for him. “
The player has always assured him: as soon as he knew that Monaco was interested in his profile, “there was no doubt, I wanted to join this club”.
– 11 games, 0 but –
To make room for him, Monaco has therefore separated from two men of his generation, too disappointing for too long: the Italian Pietro Pellegri, bought more than 20 million euros and loaned to AC Milan, and the English Willem Geubbels, also bought 20 million euros and loaned to Nantes. The club, on the other hand, did not extend Stevan Jovetic …
Confidence by his success in the Netherlands and the assurance of having playing time, Boadu was therefore ready to take up the Monegasque challenge very quickly.
“I’m strong physically, he said when he arrived. I want to bring on this plan. I came here to score goals. It’s my job. That’s what I like.”
Upon his arrival, he was also established for the first two days of Ligue 1. But while Monaco tries to qualify for the Champions League, his performances against Nantes (1st day), then in Lorient (2nd day) were too needy.
Since then, the center-forward, tenured four times and entered seven other times (out of 16 matches in all competitions) has still not scored a single goal. Just does it count a small assist to his credit, in Clermont.
– Double against PSV –
Too little for a scorer who walks with confidence. Much too little to claim to compete with his teammates Wissam Ben Yedder and Kevin Volland.
Moreover, today, Boadu seems more in competition with Wilson Isidor, 21, back from Bastia-Borgo, where he had a very good last season in the National, than with the star duo of the Principality team.
But Niko Kovac is counting on the young Dutchman. He pushes him to training and has confidence in his qualities as a scorer. After starting him in San Sebastian against Real Sociedad (1-1) on the previous day of the Europa League, he could offer him another chance against an opponent he knows perfectly.
On January 13, then attacking AZ Alkmaar, Boadu thus came to win 3-1 at the Phillips Stadion in Eindhoven. The previous season, on October 27, 2019, he even offered a brace in a 4-0 victory against PSV.
In a group B where everything remains very undecided between Monaco, Eindhoven (4 points each) and Real Sociedad (2 points), Monaco and Boadu have every interest in showing themselves at the level Thursday evening to hope to get closer to qualifying.
